We have both “open”
days on the work site and “scheduled” days. On
scheduled days, groups and individuals sign up to
volunteer on the work site. If you would like to
pre-plan a day to work please email
or call us with you or your group’s information
at (304) 364-4244.
We have open days when no group has scheduled to
volunteer (mostly in the summer). On these days we will
send emails out to people on our volunteer list letting
them know we are in need of volunteers. You are also
welcome to call about these dates.
Please
use these links for more information and for the forms
you will need.
Please try to have waivers filled out in advance:
Crew Leaders:
We need people to help lead our volunteers, especially
when we have big groups on the worksite. If you are
experienced in building and would like to train and lead
others please contact us.
Meals: We also
look for people who might like to help by providing a
meal to our worksite volunteers. Regularly, volunteers
are asked to bring their own lunch if they will be
staying over the lunch hour, however, we are delighted
when someone helps us thank our volunteers by providing
lunch. We also strive to provide meals during special
events. Contact us to provide a meal.
Clean-Up Crew:
A clean work site is a well functioning work site. We
look for volunteers who want to focus on keeping our
worksite clean and organized to prevent waste and
injury. Contact us if you would like to help!
Committees:
In order to provide all the services we do, we rely on
the input of our committees to help create policy and
plan and execute our work. Committees generally meet
monthly. Please let us know if you have an interest in
any of the following:
-
Site Selection: Finding
affordable and appropriate land for building.
-
Family Selection: Helping to
recruit, interview, and recommend partner families
to the board of directors for approval.
-
Family Support: Advocates help
guide families through the Habitat process and help
prepare families for homeownership.
-
Faith Relations: Helps keep us
connected to the faith community.
-
Construction: Helps in
developing workable house plans, creating
construction timelines, and in establishing contacts
in the professional homebuilding community.
-
Fundraising/Resource Development:
Planning special events, researching grant
opportunities, and securing donations of money and
materials.
-
Communications: Developing media
contacts and informing them of upcoming events and
activities, newsletter development and website
development/updating.
-
Youth United: High school

in their community by building and helping to raise

-
Campus Chapter: College Students
interested in helping to make a difference in their
community by building and helping to raise funds.
Board of Directors:
Join our board of directors. The Marion County Habitat
for Humanity board is a group of volunteers who are
interested in helping shape the vision, direction, and
policies of our affiliate.
Board meetings happen on the 3rd Tuesday of
every month at 6 pm at the Fairmont Housing Authority
building. Feel free to check one out and decide if board
membership is right for you! Meetings are typically
1.5-2 hours and board members generally are expected to
join at least one committee.
Work Camps:
Work camps are groups of people who come from outside
the area and stay over night, typically on a
Monday-Friday basis, and volunteer on our work site. We
provide a place to sleep, a place to shower, and a place
to cook meals. The cost per person is $125 and helps to
cover things like insurance, supplies, etc. If you are
interested in bringing a group to our area to volunteer
please email
or call us with you or your group’s
information at (304) 364-4244. |
